SEA COAST Details
SEA COAST Objective
SEA COAST is organized to provide basic instruction on fundamentals and principles of protein X-ray Crystallography to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and more established young scientists both from academia and industry, who have a background and/or are interested in structural biology and protein X-ray crystallography. In addition to fundamentals, intensive training in modern crystallographic software will be provided.
The workshop will cover an overview of macromolecular crystallography and all aspects of the structure solution process, such as crystallization, data collection theory, processing, phasing, refinement, validation and PDB deposition of the structural data. The course will also include molecular graphics and bioinformatics topics.
Major crystallographic software suites, CCP4, PHENIX, SHELX, and Global Phasing software will be presented along with many individual programs. All software will be presented by software developers.
In addition to lectures and tutorials, the students who have unresolved crystallographic problems, will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the world class experts.
Prospective Applicants and Selection
The workshop is mainly intended for applicants from the Southeast Asian region, but applications from elsewhere will also be considered.
Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, academic and industrial staff who are primed for structural biology and X-ray crystallography-based research are eligible to apply. The SEA COAST committee will select 30 attendees to join the workshop. The application will be closed on November 30, 2018 and the selection results will be announced by Dec 7, 2018.
The 30 selected applicants will be responsible for registration fees for participation in the SEA COAST as follows:
|1. Students||3,000 Baht (THB)|
|2. Postdoctoral fellows/ Academic faculty/ Academic Staff/ National Scientist Researchers||6,000 Baht (THB)|
|3. Commercial/ Industrial Staff||10,000 Baht (THB)|
Course materials, lunch and coffee breaks throughout the workshop are included in the registration fee. However, all selected participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging. Recommended hotels on campus or nearby KMUTT are available at economical rates.
