About the University |

KMUTT was developed from
Thonburi Technical College (founded on February 4, 1960). The college
became a degree-granting institute by the name of King Mongkut's
Institute of Technology, Thonburi Campus in 1971. The Thonburi Campus
subsequently became King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi
(KMITT) in 1986.
On March 7, 1998, as announced in the Royal Gazette, KMITT became King
Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). KMUTT is the first
among public universities in Thailand to receive full autonomy.
The University consists of nine faculties / schools, six research
centers and service institutes. |

In addition, it is the first
Thai university that has an industrial park to facilitate the transfer
of research and innovative work of the university to Thai industries.
The missions of the industrial park are to cultivate technological
entrepreneurs from young graduates of the Thai universities, and to
strengthen the competitiveness of Thai industries. |

University
Facilities
The university is well-equipped with research facilities. Centralized
computing facilities, apart from those in specialized laboratories, and
reading rooms, are open 24 hours. The university library contains over
100,000 textbooks and documents as well as an online publication search.
The university clinic is open during office hours. |

Emergency services have been
arranged with nearby hospitals. There are dormitories, designed to be
learning and living centers, which can accommodate 1,200 students. They
are equipped with facilities for internet connections as well as
physical exercise and recreation. The university has a gymnasium and a
sports field.
In addition, a large public park and sports facilities of the Bangkok
Metropolitan Authorities are adjacently located. |

Research and Development
The university
puts a great effort in R&D work in science and technology so that it can
become a leading S&T university serving Thailand well. Results of its
R&D work, technology demonstration and technology transfer are
emphasized to ensure relevance of university academic work towards
improvement of quality of life and economic competitiveness of the
country.
Areas of expertise are food technology and engineering, management and
utilization of wastewater and food industry wastes, biotechnology, clean
energy and renewable energy, combustion, energy management and
conservation, foundry, welding and metal forming, surface coatings and
engineering, thin film coatings, laser and ozone technology,
CAD-CAM-CIM, robotics and artificial intelligence. These areas cover
major needs for the country's competitive development in science and
technology.
