Ongoing Activities
The Faculty
of Science Committee has approved the initiative to become number
one among research technology universities in Southeast Asia by the year
2006, which is in line with the university's intermediate
mission. |
| |
 |
The faculty's research work, in terms of
inventions, has been nationally apparent. In order to make our
faculty recognized internationally by working closely with leading
universities in these fields, the faculty encourages its staff
to use English and an e-learning system as a means of communication and
learning. Our plans were set forth to follow the guidance of the 9th
National Socio-economic Development Plan (2002-2006). Therefore, the
current activities of the Faculty of Science are as follows. |
| |
Strengthening Graduate Studies
Start-up PhD programs on top of the currently well-recognized MS
programs in all four departments by the academic years 2003-2004.
Cooperation in exchange of information re-lated to teaching,
staff development, research, and joint degree programs in
the fields of their mutual interests with leading foreign
universities.
Strengthening
Research Activities
Increase publications in peer reviewed journals to become the top
research university in Southeast Asia by the year 2006.
Encourage setting up of specialized research groups, which
include senior and graduate students. The research groups utilize
strengths within the faculty and co-workers from other faculties,
institutions and industry. Both the agenda-based or
directed/multidisciplinary research and basic research are
well-balanced.
Encourage joint research activities in science and technology
of their mutual interests with faculty members from foreign
universities. Staff exchanges are also a key part of this activity.
Research Labs/Centers
Several multidisciplinary research laboratories were established in
the year 2002 including the Risk and Decision Analysis Lab (RADAL),
Ozone Research Lab, Software Development, and Food Evaluation and
Analysis Laboratories. The laboratories aim to respond to the
research needs of the country and deliver outputs for real
applications in small & medium enterprises.

Twinning
Degree Program
Construct joint degree or twinning degree programs at the
undergraduate level with
leading universities. In this programme, students will study
the first 2 years at KMUTT and a 1-2 years in the partner
university. The students will earn degrees from the participating
universities. This activity enables the students to extend
their learning opportunities. At the same time, it creates
opportunities for exchanges of experience in teaching, learning, and
researching between the universities.
Staff Development
To strengthen our research capability in the forefront technologies,
staff training both in the country and abroad are promoted in the
areas of nanotechnology, biotechnology , laser and ozone
technology and risk & decision analysis. This is to improve
both the research and teaching qualities of our staff. |
 |
| |
Cooperative Learning
Increase research cooperation with business, academic and research
institutions and
industry by focusing on research activities. Application of
Constructionism and Project-based Learning (PBL) approaches in
teaching/learning were targeted. The Practice School Concept
was used as a tool to carry out these approaches. The curricula were
modified to enable students to have a 4-month practical training
opportunity as well as problem-solving skills in business and
industrial environments.
Enhance Learning Networking and
Research Facilities
Participation of parents, community, universities, research
institutes, as well as business entrepreneurs to form networks in
teaching, learning and researching is emphasized.
The Faculty of Science has adopted the asset management in order to
provide the full and effective utilization of its facilities for
teaching and doing research, as well as develop the faculty's
environment including landscaping and outdoor furnishings to
facilitate student activities and recreations.

 |
Outreach Program
The faculty's commitment to contribute to the community surrounding
the university is apparent through several activities with 53 high
schools in the southern Bangkok area, as well as joint research and
technology transfer programs with the community focusing on career
development and sustainable environmental improvement. The Faculty
of Science has an agreement with the Institute for the Promotion of
Teaching Science and Technology to assist the schools in terms of
curriculum development, academic training and learning process
skills. This is to produce science teachers for public schools and
to construct problem-based learning curricula for grade
students. The faculty also serves as one of the training
centers for the Academic Olympiad for high school students.
Quality Improvement
The Faculty of Science has adopted the quality assurance scheme for
the improvement and development of teaching and learning efficiency
and administration management. Total Quality Management (TQM)
and Quality Improvement (QI) will be implemented fully in
the near future. |
